DESCRIPTION

Tegrapine (carbamazepine) is an anti-convulsant medicine that prevents fits and can also control mood disorders. It is a sodium channel blocker that inhibits neuron excitation in the brain by reducing glutamate neurotransmitter levels, leading to neuronal membrane stabilization and antiepileptic effects. Its depressant effect on dopamine and noradrenaline turnover may be responsible for its antimanic properties.
