COMPOSITION :
Each 1 ml contains : simethicone 40mg.
DESCRIPTION :
Semicon (Simethicone) is an antiflatulence drug, Simethicone is atoxic surface-active substance and not absorbed by
the mucus membranes, it is foam suppressant acts by removing of gases in stomach and intestine through decreasing
the surface tension of gas bubbles leads to join the small bubbles together forming larger bubbles easily removed in a
natural way.
INDICATIONS :
Semicon used to remove the gases from gastro-intestinal tract in the following cases :
- Colic, flatulence and meteorism in the abdomen.
- Dyspepsia.
- Aerophagy.
- Postoperative meteorism.
- Preparation for endoscopic or radiological investigation of the gastro-intestinal tract.
- Oesophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux, gastritis and peptic ulcer.
- Spastic or irritable colon.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION :
Infants and children up to 6 years : 10 - 15 drops (0.5 - 0.75 ml) in the nursing bottle 2 - 3 times a day or after meals, it
can be used for several weeks.
Children above 6 years : 15 - 20 drops (0.75 - 1 ml) mix with any little fluid after each meal and before going to bed.
Adults : 25 - 50 drops (1.25 - 2.5 ml) mix with any little fluid after each meal and before going to bed.
Preparation for stomach and intestine investigation : 50 drops (2.5 ml) 3 - 4 times a day on the two preceding days and
50 drops (2.5 ml) each when fasting on the morning of the day of investigation and immediately before the
investigation.
Note :
- Shake the bottle before use.
- Suitable for diabetic patients.
RESTRICTIONS ON USE :
Contraindication
- Obstructive gastrointestinal disorders.
- Ileus.
Precautions
No special precautions are necessary .
Use in Pregnancy (category C) & Lactation
There are no controlled studies have been carried out either on animals or on humans. Since the active ingredient is
not absorbed by mucus membranes it is not expected to harm the fetus, or enter breast milk.
DRUG INTERACTIONS :
Concomitant administration of Simethicone with levothyroxine may lead to decrease the effect of levothyroxine.
SIDE EFFECTS :
Semicon is not expected to cause any side effects because it is not absorbed by mucus membranes and excreted
unchanged.
OVERDOSAGE :
No dangerous effects have been reported when excess amount of Simethicone is taken.
