📌 COMPOSITION
Each 1 ml contains: Simethicone 40 mg.
📌 DESCRIPTION
Semicon (Simethicone) is an antiflatulence drug. Simethicone is a non‑toxic surface‑active substance and is not absorbed by the mucous membranes. It is a foam suppressant that acts by removing gases from the stomach and intestine through decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles, leading to the joining of small bubbles together to form larger bubbles which are easily removed in a natural way.
📌 INDICATIONS
Semicon is used to remove gases from the gastro‑intestinal tract in the following cases:
- Colic, flatulence and meteorism in the abdomen.
- Dyspepsia.
- Aerophagy.
- Postoperative meteorism.
- Preparation for endoscopic or radiological investigation of the gastro‑intestinal tract.
- Oesophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux, gastritis and peptic ulcer.
- Spastic or irritable colon.
📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
- Infants and children up to 6 years: 10-15 drops (0.5-0.75 ml) in the nursing bottle 2-3 times a day or after meals. It can be used for several weeks.
- Children above 6 years: 15-20 drops (0.75-1 ml) mixed with a little fluid after each meal and before going to bed.
- Adults: 25-50 drops (1.25-2.5 ml) mixed with a little fluid after each meal and before going to bed.
- Preparation for stomach and intestine investigation: 50 drops (2.5 ml) 3-4 times a day on the two preceding days, and 50 drops (2.5 ml) when fasting on the morning of the day of investigation and immediately before the investigation.
Note:
- Shake the bottle before use.
- Suitable for diabetic patients.
📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE
Contraindications
- Obstructive gastrointestinal disorders.
- Ileus.
Precautions
No special precautions are necessary.
Use in Pregnancy (Category C) & Lactation
There are no controlled studies that have been carried out either on animals or on humans. Since the active ingredient is not absorbed by mucous membranes, it is not expected to harm the foetus or enter breast milk.
📌 DRUG INTERACTIONS
Concomitant administration of Simethicone with levothyroxine may lead to a decrease in the effect of levothyroxine.
📌 SIDE EFFECTS
Semicon is not expected to cause any side effects because it is not absorbed by mucous membranes and is excreted unchanged.
📌 OVERDOSAGE
No dangerous effects have been reported when excess amounts of Simethicone are taken.
