The pharmaceutical and medicines industry stands as one of the most vital manufacturing sectors that Yemen urgently needs to expand in the coming years. A strong national pharmaceutical industry must serve as a fundamental pillar in shaping Yemen's strategic economic dimension – not only because of its direct role in securing citizens' health, but also due to its economic significance and its deep interconnection with the healthcare sector.

The state's commitment to a national strategy that encourages and develops local pharmaceutical manufacturing has already contributed to raising the industry's competitive market share to 25% of the medicine supply – a remarkable 15% increase over previous years. This growth has been achieved through ambitious expansion plans: adding new production lines, increasing the manufacturing of pharmaceutical groups demanded by local markets, and ultimately enabling the national pharmaceutical industry to fulfil its role in achieving drug security for the country.

At Shiba Pharma, our goal is to manufacture medicines that support the provision of health services and pharmaceuticals at sufficient levels and with the quality that meets citizens' expectations. To that end, we have defined clear initiatives and indicators that encourage investment in pharmaceutical industries and drive us towards drug self‑sufficiency. This, in turn, guides all stakeholders toward advancing pharmaceutical education through a curriculum grounded in scientific and applied training, so that its graduates meet the evolving needs of the labour market.

Therefore, we all must embrace a shared national responsibility to develop pharmaceutical education and ensure the quality of its outputs, in line with the country's ambitions to localise the pharmaceutical industry. This will enable the implementation of the national vision and lay the foundation for a new phase in which this industry becomes a vital contributor to the national economy – given its importance in achieving drug security and providing high‑quality, highly effective medicines.
