Fenamol
📌 COMPOSITION
- Each 5 ml (suspension) contains: Mefenamic Acid B.P. 50 mg.
- Each capsule contains: Mefenamic Acid B.P. 250 mg.
- Each F/C tablet contains: Mefenamic Acid B.P. 500 mg.
📌 DESCRIPTION
Fenamol (Mefenamic Acid) is a non‑steroidal agent with anti‑inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity.
📌 INDICATIONS
Fenamol is indicated:
- For the relief of mild to moderate pain including muscular or traumatic origin, dental pain, headache and post‑operative pain.
- For the relief of pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis (including Still's disease) and osteoarthritis.
- As an antipyretic.
- For the relief of premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhoea.
📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Fenamol is administered after meals with a full glass of water.
- Adults: one tablet (500 mg) or 2 capsules (250 mg) three times daily for not longer than 7 days at one time.
- Children: 25 mg/kg daily in three divided doses for not longer than 7 days, except in Still's disease, and according to the following schedule:
* Doses may be repeated as necessary up to three times daily.
📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE
Contraindications
- Patients with hypersensitivity to Mefenamic Acid or patients in whom aspirin or other non‑steroidal anti‑inflammatory drugs precipitate symptoms of bronchospasm, allergic rhinitis or urticaria.
- Patients with active ulceration or chronic inflammation of either the upper or lower G.I.T.
- Patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
Precautions
Apart from Still's disease, therapy should not be continued for longer than 7 days in children.
📌 SIDE EFFECTS
Diarrhoea occasionally occurs, and rarely drowsiness, dizziness and haematological changes may occur.
📌 STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
- Suspension: Store below 25°C and do not refrigerate.
- Capsules: Store below 30°C in a dry place.
- Tablets: Store below 30°C in a dry place.
📌 PHARMACEUTICAL FORMS
- Fenamol Paediatric Suspension: Bottle of 60 ml and 100 ml.
- Fenamol 250 Capsules: Pack of 20 capsules and hospital packs of different sizes.
- Fenamol 500 F/C Tablets: Pack of 10 tablets and hospital packs of different sizes.
