Nysta-Drop
📌 COMPOSITION
Each 1 ml contains: Nystatin 100,000 IU.
📌 DESCRIPTION
Nysta-Drop (Nystatin) is an antifungal produced by the growth of certain strains of Streptomyces noursei, and it is active against a wide range of yeasts and fungi, including Candida albicans. It binds to ergosterol, a major component of the fungal cell membrane, and forms pores in the membrane that lead to K⁺ leakage, acidification and death of the fungus. Nysta-Drop is not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract, skin or vagina, so it is used topically.
📌 INDICATIONS
- Prevention and treatment of fungal infections in the oral cavity, oesophagus and gastrointestinal tract.
- Prevention against oral candidosis in newborns born to mothers with vaginal candidosis.
📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
- Newborns: For prophylaxis 1 ml once daily.
- Infants from 1 month to 2 years: For treatment 1 ml four times daily.*
- Children older than 2 years: 4-6 ml four times daily.*
- Adults: 5-10 ml four times daily.*
Note: For the treatment of oral cavity infection, keep the suspension in contact with the affected area in the mouth as long as possible before swallowing.
* Administration of Nysta-Drop should be continued for 48 hours after clinical cure to prevent relapse.
📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Nystatin.
- Nysta-Drop should not be used for the treatment of systemic mycoses.
Use during Pregnancy and Lactation
Should not be used during pregnancy and lactation unless necessary after consulting a physician.
📌 SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea, and in high doses may cause vomiting, diarrhoea and gastrointestinal tract irritation. Rash, including urticaria, has been reported rarely.
📌 STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 30°C, do not refrigerate.
