Mucosental
📌 COMPOSITION
- Each 1 ml oral drops contains: Ambroxol HCl Eur.P. 7.5 mg.
- Each 5 ml syrup contains: Ambroxol HCl Eur.P. 15 mg.
- Each tablet contains: Ambroxol HCl Eur.P. 30 mg.
📌 DESCRIPTION
Mucosental (Ambroxol HCl) contains Ambroxol, which is the active metabolite of bromhexine, and it is a systemic mucolytic agent. It acts by altering the structure of mucus to decrease its viscosity and therefore facilitates its removal by ciliary action or expectoration. This results in considerable improvement in breathing and a reduction in the frequency of coughing. Thus, Mucosental restores the protective function of the normal secretions on the surface of the respiratory mucosa. Ambroxol HCl is rapidly and completely absorbed, with peak plasma levels reached within 1-2.5 hours after oral administration. It is mainly metabolised in the liver. Its half‑life is approximately 10 hours.
📌 INDICATIONS
Mucosental is indicated to remove mucus in the following cases:
- Acute and chronic respiratory tract disorders associated with excessive mucus production.
- Exacerbating chronic bronchitis, asthmatic bronchitis and bronchial asthma.
- Common cold infections and productive cough.
- Removal of mucous secretions pre‑ and post‑operation.
- Useful in the treatment of respiratory tract infections when used with some antibiotics.
📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Mucosental syrup or oral drops is diluted with water, juice or milk as follows:
* For the treatment of acute respiratory disorders and as initial treatment for chronic cases for up to 14 days, the dose may be increased to 30 ml twice daily.
** The therapeutic effect may be enhanced by administering 2 tablets twice daily.
