Coda Cough
📌 COMPOSITION
Each 10 ml contains:
- Chlorpheniramine maleate USP 2 mg
- Phenylephrine HCl USP 5 mg
- Ephedrine HCl USP 5 mg
- Codeine phosphate 8 mg
📌 DESCRIPTION
Chlorpheniramine is an antihistaminic agent. Phenylephrine and Ephedrine both have a sympathomimetic effect that causes relaxation of bronchospasm; the combination leads to decongestion of irritated nasal and bronchial mucous membranes. The Codeine dose is limited to the amount that elevates the threshold of the cough centre.
📌 INDICATIONS
- Acute and chronic bronchitis, especially when associated with irritation, congestion or bronchospasm.
- Common cold, influenza and upper respiratory tract infection.
- Asthma and whooping cough.
📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Coda Cough syrup is administered three or four times daily as follows:
📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components.
- Cardiac arrhythmia.
- Concurrent use with sympathomimetics.
Precautions
- Concomitant use of Coda Cough with alcohol and CNS depressants (hypnotics, sedative tranquilizers).
- Patients with productive cough.
- Patients with diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular disorders, hypertension.
Effect on capacity to drive or use machines
Administer with caution, since it may cause drowsiness.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Administer under medical supervision.
📌 DRUG INTERACTIONS
- Concomitant administration with alcohol and sedative drugs will potentiate the sedative effects of Chlorpheniramine maleate.
- Concomitant administration with sympathomimetic agents, MAOIs, tricyclic antidepressants, theophylline.
📌 SIDE EFFECTS
- Slight to moderate drowsiness is the most frequent side effect.
- Hypotension, headache, fatigue, blurred vision, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, tachycardia, nervousness, insomnia, palpitation.
