📌 COMPOSITION

• Each 5 ml syrup contains: Salbutamol sulphate equivalent to Salbutamol 2 mg.
• Each tablet contains: Salbutamol sulphate equivalent to Salbutamol 2 mg or 4 mg.

📌 DESCRIPTION

Ventol (Salbutamol Sulphate) is a selective β₂‑adrenergic stimulant with a marked selective action on the bronchial muscle and minimal effects on the cardiovascular system. Salbutamol also decreases uterine contractility. Salbutamol is readily absorbed from the GIT. It is subjected to first‑pass metabolism in the liver and possibly in the gut wall. Salbutamol is rapidly excreted in the urine as metabolites and as unchanged drug. The plasma half‑life is about 2-7 hours.

📌 INDICATIONS

• The treatment of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma of all types, emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
• The arrest of premature labour.

📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION

Ventol is administered orally 3 or 4 times daily as follows:

• Adults: 2-4 mg and may be increased gradually to 8 mg in some patients.
• Children:
  • 6-12 years: 2 mg (5 ml)
  • 2-6 years: 1-2 mg (2.5-5 ml)
  • Under 2 years: as recommended by the physician.

📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE

Contraindications

• History of hypersensitivity to salbutamol.
• Threatened abortion during the first and second trimester of pregnancy.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Salbutamol may be administered during pregnancy and lactation only under strict medical supervision.

Precautions

Use with caution in patients with thyrotoxicosis.

📌 DRUG INTERACTIONS

Concomitant administration of salbutamol with beta‑adrenergic blocking agents may result in mutual inhibition of therapeutic effects.

📌 ADVERSE EFFECTS

• Fine tremor of skeletal muscles (usually the hands), which is dose‑related.
• Other less frequent side effects include tenseness, headache, palpitations and slight tachycardia.

📌 OVERDOSAGE

Gastric lavage and a cardioselective beta‑adrenergic blocking agent should be used, but with caution in patients with a history of bronchospasm.

📌 STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

• Tablets: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protect from light.
• Syrup: Store below 30°C, protect from light.

• Ventol Tablets: Pack of different sizes.
• Ventol Syrup: Bottle of 60 ml, 100 ml and 150 ml.
