📌 COMPOSITION

Each F/C tablet contains: Secnidazole 1000 mg.

📌 DESCRIPTION

Scazol Forte (Secnidazole) is a 5‑nitroimidazole derivative with activity against several protozoa including Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia and Trichomonas vaginalis. After a single oral dose of 2 g, the maximum concentration in serum occurs within 3 hours. The plasma elimination half‑life is about 20 hours. Secnidazole is mainly eliminated in the urine (50% of the ingested dose is excreted within 25 hours). It crosses the placenta and can be found in breast milk.

📌 INDICATIONS

Scazol Forte is indicated for treatment of the following cases:

• Intestinal amoebiasis.
• Hepatic amoebiasis.
• Giardiasis.
• Urogenital trichomoniasis in both males and females.
• Anaerobic septicaemias and non‑specific vaginitis.

📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION

Scazol Forte should be taken before a meal.

Intestinal amoebiasis

• Acute symptomatic amoebiasis (histolytic form)
  • Adults: 2 g in one single dose for one day.
  • Children: 30 mg/kg/day in one single dose for one day.
• Asymptomatic amoebiasis (minute and cystic forms)
  • Adults: 2 g as a single dose per day for 3 days.
  • Children: 30 mg/kg/day for 3 days.

Hepatic amoebiasis

• Adults: 1.5 g per day in single or divided doses for 5 days.
• Children: 30 mg/kg/day in single or divided doses for 5 days.

Trichomoniasis, Giardiasis and Bacterial vaginosis: Single dose of 2 g for one day.

📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to imidazole derivatives.
• It is contraindicated in patients who suffer from organic neurological disorders and blood dyscrasias.

Precautions

• If various neurological signs develop while using the drug, stop it immediately.
• Avoid alcohol consumption.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Secnidazole should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.

📌 DRUG INTERACTIONS

• Secnidazole has been reported to potentiate the effect of warfarin. Hence, prothrombin levels should be checked frequently, and the dose of anticoagulants should be adjusted during treatment with Secnidazole.
• Concomitant administration of Secnidazole and disulfiram may cause delirium and confusion.

📌 ADVERSE EFFECTS

• The most frequently occurring side effects are nausea, sometimes accompanied by headache, anorexia and occasionally diarrhoea, epigastric distress and metallic taste.
• Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions may occur including urticaria, pruritus and oedema.
• Leucopenia which is reversible upon stopping the treatment.
• Tiredness, furred tongue, darkening of the urine.

Store below 25°C in a dry place.
