Prazol
📌 COMPOSITION
Each tablet contains: Alprazolam USP 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg & 1.0 mg.
📌 DESCRIPTION
Prazol (Alprazolam) is an antianxiety and antidepressant agent. Prazol is rapidly absorbed following oral administration and the peak concentration in the plasma occurs within 1-2 hours. Alprazolam and its metabolites are excreted in urine.
📌 INDICATIONS
Prazol is indicated for the treatment of:
- Anxiety, tension, agitation, insomnia, apprehension and irritability.
- Mixed anxiety depression: symptoms of anxiety and depression occur simultaneously in such patients.
- Neurotic or reactive depression: which appears in patients as depressed mood, loss of pleasure, symptoms of anxiety, psychomotor agitation, insomnia, appetite disturbances, loss of weight, cognitive disturbances, feeling of worthlessness or guilt and thoughts of death or suicide.
- Anxiety states, mixed anxiety depression or neurotic depression accompanied with other diseases such as chronic phase of alcohol withdrawal, and functional or organic disease in particular gastrointestinal and cardiovascular or dermatological disorders.
📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Adults
- Anxiety: Initial dose 0.25-0.5 mg three times daily. (Usual dosage range 0.5-4.0 mg daily in divided doses).
- Depression: Initial dose 0.5 mg three times daily. (Usual dosage range 1.5-4.5 mg daily in divided doses).
Debilitated patients and Geriatrics
- Initial dose 0.25 mg two or three times daily, the dose being increased as needed and tolerated. (Usual dosage range 0.5-0.75 mg daily in divided doses).
📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines.
Precautions
- Possible drowsiness; caution when driving or doing things requiring alertness.
- Avoid sudden abrupt discontinuation of Alprazolam.
- Caution must be taken when giving such drug to patients suffering from renal or hepatic impairment.
Use in pregnancy and lactation
Not recommended.
📌 DRUG INTERACTIONS
Concomitant use of Alprazolam with barbiturates or alcohol causes additive CNS depressant effect.
📌 SIDE EFFECTS
- The common side effect is drowsiness.
- Less common side effects are light headedness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, concentration difficulties and confusion.
📌 STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from light.

- Prazol 0.5 tablets: Pack of 20 tablets and hospital packs of different sizes.
