Praziquin
📌 COMPOSITION
Each F/C tablet contains: Praziquantel USP 600 mg. The tablet is divided into 4 parts, each containing 150 mg.
📌 DESCRIPTION
Praziquin (Praziquantel) is an anthelmintic drug with a broad spectrum activity against trematodes (flukes) and cestodes (tapeworms). It is rapidly absorbed from the GIT after oral administration and peak plasma concentrations are achieved within 1-3 hours. It undergoes rapid and extensive metabolism in the liver. It is distributed to the CSF and into breast milk and excreted in the urine, mainly as metabolites. The elimination half‑life is 1-1.5 hours and that of the metabolites about 4 hours.
📌 INDICATIONS
Praziquin is indicated in the treatment of schistosomiasis, cysticercosis, taeniasis, diphyllobothriasis, hymenolepiasis and intestinal, liver and lung fluke infections.

📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE
Contraindications
None so far.
Precautions
- Praziquantel should not be used in patients with ocular cysticercosis.
- Patients should be warned that Praziquin may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so they should not drive or operate machinery during or for 24 hours after treatment.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
- Praziquantel should not be given during the first trimester of pregnancy.
- Breast‑feeding mothers should not breast‑feed during or for 72 hours after treatment.
📌 SIDE EFFECTS
- Praziquin is well tolerated. Occasionally, mild and transient side effects such as headache, dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal discomfort, nausea and diarrhoea may occur.
- Allergic reactions like fever, urticaria and skin rash have been reported.
📌 STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 30°C in a dry place.
