Methabalamin
📌 COMPOSITION
Each f/c tablet contains: Methylcobalamin 500 µg.
Each sublingual tablet contains: Methylcobalamin 1000 µg.
📌 DESCRIPTION
Methabalamin (Methylcobalamin) is the active form of vitamin B12 taken to regulate certain vital bodily functions such as cell multiplication, blood formation, and protein synthesis. It plays an important role in brain and nervous system functions and immune system functions.
📌 INDICATIONS
Methabalamin is indicated for the treatment of peripheral neuropathies.
📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
- Methabalamin f/c tablets (Adults): 1 tablet three times per day. It can be taken with or without food.
- Methabalamin sublingual tablets (Adults): 1 tablet per day. Put the tablet under your tongue until it completely dissolves. Do not chew or swallow the tablet. The dosage may be adjusted according to patient‑specific factors.
📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to methylcobalamin, cobalt, cobalamin or any vitamin B12 products.
Precautions
- It should not be used aimlessly for more than one month unless it is effective.
- Prolonged use of large doses of Methabalamin is not recommended for patients whose occupation requires handling of mercury or mercury compounds.
- Regular monitoring of the blood is advisable.
- If you have folate deficiency, use of doses greater than 10 µg daily may produce a haematological response; indiscriminate use may mask the precise diagnosis.
- Folate may mask vitamin B12 deficiency.
Use in pregnancy and lactation
Methabalamin is not recommended in pregnancy and lactation.
📌 DRUG INTERACTIONS
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any of these medicines:
- Concomitant use with the following medication may result in decreased gastrointestinal absorption: neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, histamine H2 antagonists, proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and colchicine.
- Serum concentrations may also be reduced with oral contraceptives.
📌 ADVERSE EFFECTS
Generally, Methabalamin is well tolerated. However, a few side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort including anorexia, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, headache, anaphylactoid reaction, hot sensation, excessive sweating and rash may be seen.
📌 STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light.

- Methabalamin 1000 sublingual tablets: Alu‑Alu blister 3 × 10 tablets.
