Lome Max
📌 COMPOSITION
Each F/C tablet contains: Lomefloxacin HCl equivalent to Lomefloxacin 400 mg.
📌 DESCRIPTION
Lome Max (Lomefloxacin) is one of the fluoroquinolone synthetic broad‑spectrum antibacterial agents and has high potency against Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative organisms. Lome Max is rapidly and almost completely absorbed after oral doses. Lome Max is only about 10% bound to plasma proteins. It is widely distributed into body tissues, including the lungs and prostate, and is excreted mainly in the urine, with a small amount excreted in the faeces.
📌 INDICATIONS
- Lower respiratory tract infections: Bronchitis due to Haemophilus influenzae or Branhamella catarrhalis.
- Urinary tract infections:
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections, such as cystitis caused by E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. mirabilis or Staphylococcus saprophyticus.
- Complicated urinary tract infections caused by E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. mirabilis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus or Enterobacter cloacae.
- Typhoid fever.
- Preoperative use to reduce the incidence of postoperative urinary tract infections in patients undergoing transurethral surgical procedures.
📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
- The dose should be swallowed with a full glass of water, regardless of meals. Taking the dose in the evening may minimise the risk of phototoxicity reactions.
- The usual dose is one tablet (400 mg) daily for 10-14 days.
- In patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance 10-40 ml/min) and in those on haemodialysis, the dose should be reduced: an initial dose of 400 mg should be followed by maintenance doses of 200 mg daily.
📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Lomefloxacin or to other quinolones.
- Children and growing adolescents.
Precautions
- Lomefloxacin should be given with caution to patients with a history of seizures or renal failure.
- Exposure to sunlight should be avoided because Lomefloxacin may lead to photosensitivity.
Effect on the capacity to drive vehicles or use machines
Lomefloxacin may potentiate CNS effects, so caution should be taken during Lomefloxacin treatment.
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation
Lomefloxacin should not be taken during pregnancy and lactation.
📌 DRUG INTERACTIONS
Sucralfate, antacids containing magnesium or aluminium, and mineral supplements containing iron or zinc – all of these agents interfere with Lomefloxacin bioavailability. Therefore, administration of these agents should precede Lomefloxacin dosing by 4 hours or follow it by at least 2 hours.
📌 ADVERSE EFFECTS
Lomefloxacin side effects are mild and transient and include nausea, vomiting, dizziness and diarrhoea.
📌 OVERDOSAGE
Symptoms of Lomefloxacin overdosage include confusion, delusion, headache, upset stomach and convulsions. In rare cases, it may cause kidney failure. In case of Lomefloxacin overdosage, seek medical help immediately.
📌 STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from light.
