📌 COMPOSITION

Each 5 ml contains: Chlorpheniramine Maleate USP 2.5 mg.

Each tablet contains: Chlorpheniramine Maleate USP 4 mg.

📌 DESCRIPTION

Histat (Chlorpheniramine Maleate) is a histamine H1‑receptor antagonist belonging to the alkylamine class. It is considered one of the most effective and least toxic of the histamine antagonists. It antagonises many of the pharmacological actions of histamine. It prevents the dilatation and increased permeability produced by histamine on the capillaries. It has a duration of 4-6 hours.

📌 INDICATIONS

• Allergic manifestations such as vasomotor rhinitis and hay fever.
• Spasmodic bronchial cough without dyspnoea. It can be useful as a complete alternative for cough preparations at night.
• Urticaria and angioneurotic oedema.
• Motion sickness.
• Pruritus ani and vulvae.
• Atopic and contact dermatitis and insect bites.

📌 DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION

• Adults and children over 12 years: 5-10 ml or 1 tablet three or four times daily.
• Children 6-12 years: 2.5-5 ml three or four times daily.
• Children 1-6 years: 2.5 ml three or four times daily.
• Children up to 1 year: 2.5 ml twice daily.

📌 RESTRICTIONS ON USE

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Chlorpheniramine Maleate.

Precautions

• Patients should be warned about possible additive effects with alcohol and central nervous system depressants (hypnotics, sedatives, tranquillisers).
• Administer with caution when driving vehicles or operating machinery since it may cause drowsiness.

Use in pregnancy and lactation

Administer under medical supervision.

📌 DRUG INTERACTIONS

Concomitant administration with alcohol and sedative drugs will potentiate the sedative effects of Chlorpheniramine Maleate.

📌 SIDE EFFECTS

Slight to moderate drowsiness is the most frequent side effect. Others include hypotension, headache, fatigue, blurred vision, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and dry mouth.

📌 STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

• Syrup: Store below 25°C, protect from light.
• Tablets: Store below 25°C in a dry place, protect from light.

📌 PHARMACEUTICAL FORMS

• Histat Syrup: Bottle of 60 ml and 100 ml.
• Histat Tablets: Pack of 20 tablets and hospital packs of different sizes.
