Doxin

📌 COMPOSITION

Each capsule contains: Doxycycline hyclate USP equivalent to 100 mg doxycycline.

📌 DESCRIPTION

Doxin (doxycycline hyclate) is a synthetically derived tetracycline with bacteriostatic properties against a broad spectrum of bacteria and also some antiprotozoal properties. It acts by inhibiting protein synthesis in these organisms. Doxycycline is highly absorbed from the GIT. Its absorption is not affected by food. It is bound to plasma proteins by 80-95% and is widely distributed in the body tissues and fluids. It is excreted in faeces, and its half‑life in plasma is 15-25 hours.

  • Sodium bicarbonate decreases the absorption of tetracyclines.
  • Cimetidine decreases the absorption of tetracyclines.
  • Tetracyclines decrease insulin demand.
  • Tetracyclines decrease the efficacy of oral contraceptives.
  • Tetracyclines increase the serum levels of digoxin and lithium.
  • Tetracyclines increase the serum levels of oral anticoagulants and thus decrease prothrombin level significantly.

📌 ADVERSE EFFECTS

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, erythema and photosensitivity.

📌 STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from light.
